Dental veneers are thin shells of tooth-colored material that are custom-made to cover the front surface of your teeth. They are a popular cosmetic dentistry treatment that can be used to improve the appearance of your smile by:

  • Closing gaps between teeth
  • Covering chipped or broken teeth
  • Changing the color of teeth that are stained or discolored
  • Making teeth appear straighter
  • Improving the appearance of uneven teeth

There are two main types of dental veneers: porcelain and composite resin.

  • Porcelain veneers are more durable and stain-resistant than composite resin veneers, but they are also more expensive. They are made from a thin layer of porcelain that is bonded to the front of the tooth.
  • Composite resin veneers are less expensive than porcelain veneers, but they may not last as long. They are made from a tooth-colored resin material that is applied to the front of the tooth and hardened with a light.

The procedure for getting dental veneers typically involves two or three appointments. During the first appointment, we will consult with you about your goals for treatment and examine your teeth. Then we will take X-rays and impressions of your teeth.

At the second appointment, we will prepare your teeth for the veneers by removing a small amount of enamel from the front of the teeth. This will make room for the veneers to be placed. Then we will place temporary veneers on your teeth.

At the third appointment, we will remove the temporary veneers and bond the permanent veneers to your teeth. The veneers will be bonded with a strong resin that will help to keep them in place.

Dental veneers are a good option for people who want to improve the appearance of their smile. However, they are not right for everyone. Dental veneers are not a good option for people who have:

  • Severe tooth decay
  • Gum disease
  • Bruxism (teeth grinding)
  • Severe teeth misalignment
